Hello!
I'm just being curious is all.
I would like to know why or why not a person would or would not have a windshield on their motorcycle?
I have a windshield on my motorcycle and I wouldn't have it any other way. Plus it adds a new look to my Rebel. And it protects me.
But I see people without them all the time.
So...I'm just curious what you prefer and why.
Please give me your feedback so everyone can see.
Thank you! JaNae |

I have a windshield because without it I feel like I'm going to be knocked off the back of the bike from the wind! I also like the look of it and the protection from debris, etc.

I have a windshield on my Rebel, but my husband's Rebel does not have one. After riding both bikes I much prefer having the windshield! The ride is much smoother without so much wind force. _________________ Michelle - Houston, TX

| I have a windshield. I find the wind thumping on my chest tires me out. With the windshield I don't get fatigued. I bought the spitfire from Jack's. |

I have two windshields, both SpitFires. For all the reasons stated above. I do pull it off my bike sometimes.

For my daily ride (750 nighthawk), I have two windshields:
A little spitfire-style that I use from june til the end of august, and
A Plexifairing 3 that is higher, has lowers, and sweeps out with wind deflectors for the hands. I use it in the 'shoulder' seasons. Even with electric grip heaters and an electric vest, I find it a real asset for breaking the wind.
At speeds over 75, its just too danged much work to stay in the saddle without the windshield. Makes a great rain deflector. The windshield also keeps the bugs off me, and reduces overall fatigue at the end of a long day. And, with the fullface helmet plus earplugs, its delightfully silent when you duck down behind the windshield.
YMMV.

Not sure how to vote...I have one but I don't use it. I've never been able to get it positioned so that it doesn't throw wind right into my helmet, so I gave up. Besides, I enjoy the wind blowing through my jacket... _________________ ~Thumper~

I have one for when I ride in the cold weather. Although Im liking the ability to throw my water bottle up between the bars and the shield and taking a drink while running down the road. _________________ Romans 12:18

I get the feeling I could travel around this forum and just quote DJ lately. I like the wind, it's part of my thrill. _________________ ~roxy~ |

For short hauls, the absence of a windshield is no big thing.
For touring or longish commutes, a windshield is more of a necessity than a luxury.

And, on the other end of the scale:
these are all the same reasons that I _don't_ run a windshield. If I didn't want wind, noise, rain, the occasional bug--
I'd buy a car. They come with windshields straight out of the box.
Motorcycles don't. You have to add them
It's me--
I just hate windshields. Actively feeling the world around me is one of the biggest thrills of motorcycles. I just can't find a really good reason to take such a huge piece of the experience away. _________________

I had one on the Rebel.
I have a big one on the Concours.
I don't have one on the Shadow, and I love it, at least up to about 55mph. It's awesome to cruise at 40-45mph down a country road with all that wind on you.
When I do get one for the Shadow, it will only go on when I know I'll be riding at higher speeds for extended periods of time. But that's the advantage of having two bikes. If I want protection from the elements, I'll take the Concours. _________________ Tom

My spitfire only goes on when I know I'm going to be on the highway. I'd much rather be in the open air below 60mph or so, but find 70 or above without it fatiguing.
Also, it appears that I am in the minority, but I don't like the look of the windshield on my Rebel. _________________ No matter where you go - there you are.

No windshield but there is a shield on the helmet. Enjoy the airstream and the windchill cooling effect, riding here in the south. Never rode a cycle with a windshield; guess I do not know what I am missing ... although I did have a convertible.
