Anybody tried one of the Hurricane - Spitfire windscreens from Jack's
I really like the light weight simple look but wonder how they perform.

Put a clear SpitFire on the Rebel. Love it so much when I bought the KZ it had one a week later. Miss Dottie (now rides the Rebel) loves it too. They can be hard to adjust just right but worth it. Not to big not to small. If you ride at night clear is the way to go. There are a couple of threads around here on this subject.

Thanks for the info!
I thought the smoke color would look good on my silver bike but wondered about night visibility. _________________ It's not so much what you ride,

If the Spitfire were 2" taller, it would be a great windscreen. It does a great job of keeping the wind off my body but no matter how I adjust it, the wind still catches the top of my helmet which is not fun on long rides. I am a 5'10" rider so I probably need a screen between 17 to 19 inches. For the money, the Spitfire is a great little screen and a million times better than nothing at all.
After reading the various discussions about adjusting the Spitfire, I spent 2 hours adjusting and testing the other day and duplicating what others have said worked good about the angle and height but the wind still buffets the top of my helmet and affects my vision. I can tell exactly where the wind hits my helmet by the line of crushed bugs! Yep, we got bugs in the winter time in CA. |

Thanks reloader. So what are the dimensions of that screen?
Hey, ddouble, how tall are you? I'm 6'1" and 180 to 200 lbs depending on the holidays. _________________ It's not so much what you ride,

I'm about your size (ok, maybe a bit heavier). I have the spitfire adjusted so it keeps the wind off my body but I still get it in the helmet. I wear a FF helmet so for me it isn't a big issue. I really don't notice any buffeting even at highway speeds. _________________ 2006 Pearl White Rebel (RIP) 7000 mi.

5' 11" Miss Dottie is 5' 6". The shield flows air over her helmet, On the Rebel I can get it to flow over mine as long as the wind is not quartering. On the KZ (higher seat height) It flows between shoulder and helmet top depending on speed. I use a 3/4 helmet with face shield and find the air flow can be a good thing in the summer. At higher speeds it helps relieve fatigue and pushes some of the bugs away .

Although I didn't buy them from Jack, I've had 4 over the years on various bikes. I just recently put a smoked one on AfterMidnight's "Huckleberry" as can be seen in my profile. They keep the wind off your chest fine, but if you're tall like me, they don't do much for helmet buffeting. Course since I don't wear a lid, it doesn't affect me. IMO they're the perfect WS for a small bike. _________________

Dave they're the second set I've put on a Rebel within 6 months. Huckleberry is an '85 and WyldChyld was an '02.
They significantly raise the volume of the exhaust IMO, and tend to get louder as you put on the miles.
They do blue, as do most aftermarket parts but seem to blue less than the Jardines I've used before on other bikes.
I tried to order the slash cuts directly from MAC, but I don't think they really exist anymore. Jack had mentioned the trouble he has getting them and I saw it first hand. In the end I had to cancel my order and get the tapereds from Jack. I should have just ordered them from Jack in the beginnning and saved 10 days of hassle.
I didn't have to do anything but hook them up. No rejetting etc and they worked fine. I do know that the warmup procedure became less of an annoyance on the '85 and pretty much non existant on the '02.
I probably won't own another Rebel that I don't put them on. They're a great addon IMO. _________________

How hard is it to install a windscreen on the Rebel?? Should I consider bringing it to a bike mechanic for something like that??? _________________ Judge me by my size do you? And well you should not, for my ally is the Force. - Yoda - Empire Strike Back.

They come with illustrations that work very well in most cases. Not anything to worry about although if you're in a bad mood they can be irritating. LOL
Hooking up is no big deal but adjusting them to fit can be a nuisance. _________________

Agreed, both of mine even came with the wrench for the bolts. Adjustment took the most time because you have to ride around to check each time you move it. Of course it's just another reason to ride.
