I thought I'd write up a quick review of my trial run with the plexifairing windshield on my 450.
The fit was no problem. I was able to adjust it pretty easily to make it fit the Rebel. It did look a bit large on the bike but it didn't feel too big while riding. The thing I didn't like, and the reason I removed it, was looking through the shield as opposed to over it (like the Spitfire). The picture below shows it when we first put it on. We later adjusted it so it sat right on top of the headlight. The headlight is pretty small and there was still a good sized gap there. It fits the CX500 headlight better than mine.
And a view from the perspective of sitting on the bike. You can see all the things that reflect in the shield. The speedo and lights on the "dash" also reflected into the shield.
So, basically, I was looking through three layers of stuff - my glasses, the visor of my helmet, and the shield. It was very distracting to say the least. And riding at night, the street lights and lights from the cars traveling around me made things much more distracting.
I suppose this could be remedied with a shorter shield or by cutting this one down. For the moment, hubby is using it on his CX500. He can look over it. He sits up higher on the CX (a standard) than I do on the CMX and he is a bit taller than I am.
I did very much like keeping the wind off my hands, which was why I bought it in the first place. That part works very well. I think I'm going to stick with the Spitfire, which I had finally adjusted perfectly just before trying this one out.
The shield is pretty wide and catches the wind more than the Spitfire but not so much that I couldn't adjust. I think that's just experience and practice and your own personal comfort zone.
So, there you have it! I'd recommend it if you can get your hands on a cheap one on ebay or something. But the glare and reflections in the shield were very distracting to me.

Hi Dave,
Here's a thread about the spotlights. http://www.rebel250.com/rebelforum/viewtopic.php?t=11404&highlight=spotlight
Hubby fashioned a mounting bracket for it but that was about the extent of the mods. I bought it from a guy on Craigs List so I don't know what brand it is.

I just bought a spitfire. It is still snowing here so I haven't been able to ride and adjust. Any suggestions for when I'm able to do so?

My Spitfire sits on my speedo about midway. But, I think that is going to depend on your personal preference and height while sitting on the bike. I've seen some that sit on the headlight. From there, it seems that the best adjustment was to try to get it to the same angle as the forks. Check out this link as well: http://www.surfmaine.com/rebel/windscreens.html
Good luck! It can be tricky but keep adjusting it until you find the sweet spot. You should be able to look over it but also have the air flow over your helmet and not hit you in the head.

That is what my goal is, look over the screen and have the wind over my head. It helps to know about keeping it in the same line as the forks. I'm 5'3" so I'm thinking it'll be low. I know from just setting it on the bike I'll be wanting 6 hands!!
I thank you for the link, tho I have already read that site, I came across while looking for a screen. The one I wanted was that Givi, I just love, love, love the way it looks. _________________ Lynn

I am also about 5'3". It is hard to eyeball it. You won't know for sure until you test ride it. And maybe until you test ride it at speed (as opposed to around the block). Lots of folks struggle to get it right but for me it was worth the trouble. I feel more comfortable with it on to keep the wind off my chest.

Yes, the wind on the chest is the main reason I wanted one. The way it makes you need to grip tighter to resist the pressure, I have an injury in my neck and my arms fatigue easily at times. I think, too, that it will help the cold rides a bit? _________________ Lynn
