...and this is not just for the ladies. So what do you do for fun/hobby/relaxation/extra cash? Post examples too... Cool

Three years ago I became an aunt for the first time & wanted to do something really cool for my soon to be nephew as we were readying his room. I've always drawn but never painted. I thought how hard could it be? They wanted monkeys on the wall & I found a great Jungle Book pic...so I went to work & the rest is history.

I've just completed a wall for my 12 mo/old niece in Cinderella (only fair that they each have one) & am now working on a canvas painting for my sister-in-law's best friend's baby due in Apr.

Kinda hard to get a good pic w/o glare...I shaded the horses w/ silver paint instead of gray & the flash catches it (not in a good way)

I also love cooking (I provided the food for a cancer benefit down at the local pub for one of our dear friends in Jan, also doing the cooking for special occasions there - I'm not a caterer, I just enjoy it)...I know that this was being discussed in another thread along w/ sewing & such.

...what is everone around here into?

Wow...I would say that is more than just a skill...very nice!
I am sure those kiddos love it! I am always amazed at the confidence artists have to do something like that. I am too much of a perfectionist to even try...Show some others!

In the summer I like to golf. I am a decent golfer. Best round for 9 holes was a 39. I was very happy with that. On a ladies league I won the championship for our league tournament, competeting with women in my same skill level. That was about 3 yrs ago. I don't get to golf as often as I like, so skill level tends to follow when that happens. But I pick it back up pretty quick with reg play.

I like to host/have people over for what ever- dinner, dessert, company.
It isn't so much the cooking, just over all the time I enjoy making others feel comfortable.

I can bake a pretty good pie as well.

Thanks for asking!
Connie
ps: anyone ever carry their golf bag on their bike before???

I don't have alot of confidence in my painting to do someone elses house, but I'm starting w/ canvas & seeing how that pans out...I don't really have a great imagination to create my own, but I can take a pic & copy it in my own style (which is still developing). Cartoons are easy...I haven't really tried anything else w/ paint.

We'll have to get together for golf this summer...39 is great, bring a pie!

I am not crafty at all. Not even close. My sister and brother are. My mother and all my aunts and uncles are. They all cook, sew, knit, quilt, all of that stuff. Me? Nothing. Even my hubby and all of his family are quite crafty. His daughter just got her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Oregon State. They've all got mad art skills. They all sew, knit, paint, sculpt, draw, photograph, woodwork, all that stuff. Me? Nothing.

But, I've come to accept that...

Crying or Very sad

But, I can spin a basketball on my finger. Cool My skills are all athletic. They don't have anything on me there. I watch football while they sit around felting. And I join in on the conversation during commercials. Smile I can cook ok. Hubby does most of the cooking. But, I can cook some good gumbo and jambalya. I learned a little about that from watching my mother. She has seriously mad cooking and sewing skills.

I love cooking, and I love trying new recipes. I bring food for my co-workers all the time (job security) Laughing Laughing

I also do a lot of furniture customizing and finishing. I'll have to post some pics when I get home. I'm always driving all over the place picking up projects, "turning turds into gems" as my sister says.

I bowl a 170 average, play softball and tennis, and can take apart almost anything and put it back together again.

Wow, does anyone else feel like you're applying for a job in this post?? Razz

An athletic librarian...you don't hear about that every day... Cool
We can't all be crafty..I will be un-crafty with you.

I wish I could upholster actually, I like turning junk into jems too...don't like paying someone to do it!! But I have. Seems like it would be a handy skill.

I played a lot of softball in my younger years...(age 8-22, every year).
But, now I just play catch and coach my sons b-ball. Love it.

I'd love to see some pics!

If I didn't have the financial responsibility I currently have, I'd be hitting Le Cordon Bleu culinary academy in Pittsburgh...they have a weekend course now, but I don't have a spare $40k lying around, not to mention cost of knives & whites.

We play golf in the summer...I used to rollerblade in the summer, but haven't had much time lately. That's about as athletic as I get, I tend to hurt myself... Embarassed

I still cannot post pictures... I'd love to share images with you all... Sad I work as a Sr. Plant Technician at Turkey Point Nuclear Station. I dont glow on most days.

For now, I guess I just get to tell you. On the weekdays after work, and when I'm tired I spend my time training Tarzan my blue/gold macaw. He's up to nearly 20 word vocabulary now. We play marco/polo in the pool, and he LOVES cleaning my teeth.

If, after work, I have energy left I spend my weekdays bobbing the rebel for Melissa. When that's done, who knows what I'll do?

On sunny weekends I go Scuba Diving and spear-fishing or Skydiving (just finishing my AFF classes).

Before I moved to sea-level Florida I was into rock-climbing on the weekends in Utah/Nevada/California. I guess you fit your interests to your location.

Go for it Jordan! The EAP is the best way to kickstart an Engineering career. What field are you going into? I started Civil, then went Mechanical, and now I'm in the Nuclear field. Go Nuc if you can, the benny's are GREAT!

The training is in Civil Engineering. Right out of training I would be working as a Transportation Tech, but I'm most interested in Bridge Design and Urban Planning.

You're right, EAP is the way to go. Even as an apprentice I'll be making more than I do now.

I'll have great benny's wherever I go in the department... It's the state!

What area of Nuclear are you in? I have a buddy who works with Nuclear Materials and Fuels. He maka the big bucks!

Fishing's relaxing...is that fly fishing?

I want to see pics of the macaw! I've got a small conure & he's very affectionate, with me only...he gets kind of beligerent when he drinks & bites alot (we call him the chickenhawk, because he thinks he can take on anything). I used to have a blue front amazon parrot who could talk, they told me he was handfed but he was mean as heck. I gave him to one of the girls at the vets office.

my dogs are about 6 (female) & 2 (male)...they were both rescues
