I wear a full face helmet so I don't worry about a windshield. I also like the look of my bike better without one. _________________ There ain't a horse thats never been rode and there ain't a cowboy thats never been throwed!

| I was gonna get a windshield...I am a new rider and the wind really bothered me at first. I have gotten used to it now tho and will not be getting the shield. I too do not like the looks of it . |

I had a spitfire and gave it away. Look at mine. If you don't want the sporty look, it works great. _________________ Please Ride Sober and Safe

I did not like the Spitfire for my use, it's a little small... I am 6'2".
I have the National Cycle Dakota and love it! _________________ BigDean

I have so noticed this. I think I'm going to set my shield all the way down on the light where the instructions say to put it. Heck, I might just get one of those dakota shields. They look cool. Thanks,

That's a good looking Wind shield. Look a lot like the Memphis Shades That I had on my Vucan 1500fi.
What mounting system part number did you use?

The National 125 which I purchased (with a lifeline from M.R.) had all the parts included. All chromed too. It's on the "Uncle George" windshield thread. _________________ Please Ride Sober and Safe

Trish is correct... the windshield comes with all the mounting parts needed.
The two different model's of Dakota that fit the rebel are NC125B (17 1/2") and the N2320 (20 1/2"). I have the taller of the two, N2320.
Great windshield, I really like mine! _________________ BigDean

Trish,
Thanks for your help, you too Dean.
What's a Lifeline?
I just ordered a NC125B windshield from MAW for $84.95 This was lower than what was on the web page. I call because the windshield listing posted "limited quantity-call”. I just lucked into a good deal.
I also got an Engine guard by MC Enterprises for $121.95.

I installed my Spitfire like ddouble did. It works fine for me perhaps I wear FF helmet and expect some wind. I also tighten up my helmet strap good when I ride therefore the helmet does not move.
The National Cycle one may be better for taller riders because of the larger size. However, I am fine with the Spitfire myself |

Lifeline:
A rope, usually with a flotation device of some sort attached, tossed to a person who has fallen overboard. The theory is that fear of drowning will help him hold on tight enough to be pulled back onto the ship.
In more casual usage:
A great deal of help and support, or education on a subject, given at a critical time. _________________

This thread inspired me to give the old spitfire one last try. I have come to a conclusion, finally. I don't think I need it, period. no matter how I position it, I get beat silly. But if I just leave it of, I'm just fine. I don't have any problems on the highway, and the only time I can really say the beating would be worth it is when I'm tucking behind it in the rain.
Anybody interested in a slightly used smoked spitfire? lol |

It isn't easy but it is rewarding when you find the sweet spot.

I guess I don't know what this "sweet spot" is, or feels like, but then I don't know what the UN sweet spot feels like either . Mine is a spit fire... I have been up to almost 55 mph and not bothered by much wind, so I guess it's ok. Now if I'm riding against pretty high winds, THEN my cheeks flap a little , but I like that |

I had the same problem with my first windshield (small Maier) on my Rebel 250. I adjusted the ht and or rake probably ten times before I got it as good as it was going to get. It helped a bunch but was not ever really happy with it. So read everything I could find about windshields and ended up going with the National Cycle Street Shield Ex, Best move I ever made. Adjusted the rake I think twice and it is fantastic. Love the four point mount. Nice and solid so don't need loctite or super glue.

Hi Nick:
Glad that you enjoy your ride again. 75mph...that is really amazing
Lesson learnt: for those fellow board members who consider a windshield, get a National Cycle shield instead to avoid the same frustration that Nick had gone through.
