| A week or so ago, I decided to take off the spitfire and see how different it was without a windscreen. I actually like it better without it. But, for giggles, I thought I would try to put it back on and see if I could get it adjusted right so it wouldn't toss my helmet around so much. I can't seem to get it right, so I just took it off again. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the best mounting points on the bars would be? I'm 5'10", if that helps any. |

I was never able to get mine mounted so that my head wasn't being tossed around. I definitely prefer riding without it, even at higher speeds. _________________ ~Thumper~

It takes much patience and time to get the adjustment just right. Miss Dottie prefers hers on. I switch back and forth, its off now that the weather is nice. On longer rides or rain, cold weather I will pop mine back on.

I'm 5' 8" and was being pounded by my Spitfire. It was set at what seemed to be the logical angle to block wind and send it over my head; slightly forward of the fork rake angle. It actually just sent massive turbulence right at my dome instead.
Today I adjusted it to more or less follow the line of the fork rake, it looks like it's sweeping the wind right into my face - yet works like a charm. Counter-intuitive, but worth the tweak.
It’s a little unnerving because I am basically looking right at the top edge, but it works much better now. I’ll still be playing with height to see if I can fine tune, but I’m on the right track.
Once it’s dialed in, I’ll snap pix and illustrate the old angle. |

YA RLY,
I've heard thing about the spitfire that I didn't like. Mainly more vibration. I don't know for sure if all is true what I heard. however I saw a picture of Trish's bike and like how it looked compared to the spitfire. I think it looked better (my opinion). I ordered one for my rebel and it looks and rides great. I got it from National Cycle, model # NC125B. My bike rides and feels so much more stable. I'm not trying to sell you on an NC125B just letting you know it looks and feels good on my bike. |

I also have a National Cycle windscreen, I think it's called the "Deflector Screen". You can see it in my pics.
I like it. I don't get a lot of turbulence at my helmet, but I'm also shorter (5'5") so that might have something to do with it. |

| mine is not called "deflector screen", it is called "Dakota 3.0mm". it is fork mounted not handle bar mounted. I get no vibration or turbulance at my helmet (I'm 5'8"). I have no picture of it. If you look in Trish's garage she has a picture of her bike there, Mine looks the same. |

| I have the Spitfire. I'm 5'6". I've mounted it up high on the handlebars and angled to match the rake. No problems with turbulence. You can see in my garage. |

If you like it better without the windscreen, I would say don't try and remount the Spitfire screen
I have a Spitfire screen on my Rebel and it takes some tweaking and adjusting to get it right... At least for myself it includes tightening the Allen bolt and readjusting the screen position at extended intervals due to vibration. I have my windscreen on basically because I paid for it, but if I were to buy another Rebel; I wouldn't even try to put on a windscreen. My M50 has no windscreen and I won't even bother putting one on. |

Interesting,
I simply mounted the screen against the spedo gauge housing and wedged a tiny piece of foam back there. No glue or anything, just a slip of closed-cell trimmed from my tailbag. Not a bit of vibration.
If it was just hanging there in space from the two point mount, I bet it would bounce quite a bit, but as I have mine set up - quiet and secure. |

Previously I did have shims that would be where the foam-on-speedo would be and tried mounting in different positions using shims as I thought necessary.
My final decision was to go without the piece of foam (for cosmetic purposes) and deal with the vibration which is why I'm experiencing more problems than if I shimmed everything the way I did the first time.
There are many ways to mount the Spitfire.. and many options in using foam, no foam, shims, no shims, etc. The Honda 600VLX windscreen is bolted to the forks and much more secure while the Spitfire is mounted to the handle bars on the Rebel 250.
This may be a reason why YA RLY is a little confused about remounting the Spitfire. Basically for everyone it's trial and error and whatever works out best and what you feel comfortable (Yes, there are directions that come with the Spitfire, which said nothing about foam. -the foam is helpful, I am at this time experimenting without the foam). Which is why I won't mount a windscreen to my M50. I don't want to hassle with the windscreen as I went through the same problems with my former Shadow 1100ACE.
At this time I do have the Spitfire on my Rebel, the worse thing that can happen is I remove the windscreen. The windscreen helps, but at least for myself.. I could live without it and still be satisfied with my Rebel |

Gotta admit,
I'm still monkeying with mine. Closer each time, but it is a pain to adjust the mount points. |

I think later on I may try something that's fork mounted, but for the time being, I'm fine without it. I'm not really happy with all the vibration either. I may just decide to sell the spitfire and get something else when it becomes a necessity. Not having it on right now does allow a lot more air to get to me, which helps me stay cooler, but it also pushed me back in the seat a bit at highway speeds.
Oh well, I could have worse problems. |

mines a two point hanger ... doesn't souch a thing but air and the mount 'antennae'
doesn't move at all unless I loosen it and make it move (loc-tite is your friend - even under the clamps)
hate my harley sheild
the fork mount style makes it near impossible to adjust it in any manner (up/down slightly is all)
get a LOT more helmet buffeting on the sportste rthan the rebel
tho part of it is the UNDER stream buffeting too _________________

Ok, after my daily futz with it, I think it's dialed in.
I have it free floating now, not on the speedo. Some small vibrations on idle, but no niose at all and it stays put.
The key was the angle. Just about dead on with the rake. |

MillenniumRebel, I also have mine as a two point hanger. I have no problems if the windscreen wants to vibrate on the rubber mounts. I might try the loc-tite under handbar clamps once I feel certain where the mount points are best for my riding.
I got fed up with the 'wingnut' clamps getting loose with the antennae and used super glue so it won't drop or lose grip. As per super glue, there has been ZERO movement of both 'antennae'. If anyone goes the super glue route, make sure you KNOW where you want your 'antennae' as I have a feeling I'll break the plastic wings before the 'wingnut' and/or antennae loosens.
Anyway, my reason for using super glue was for ZERO movement with vibration |
