there will be a bunch of guys that come every year from ohio, georgia and tennessee and stay at the deland-orange city, florida koa campground. this gathering has happened every year for the last 10 years. if you want to come, let me know and I will make sure you get connected with them.

just realized that bike week is in march, more than 3 months away. (thought it was in january for some reason)

I have the gear to make the trip rain or shine though, and I'm definitely interested.

Duke was saying that it is cheaper to stay a bit south of daytona so that campground sounds perfect.

deland- orange city, florida is south of daytona. and duke is right. it is cheaper. I live in mt plymouth, fl. there are a number of campgrounds around here and cheaper than staying in daytona. plus, you can ride to daytona from here. after all, riding is what people want to do when they get here. price and riding is the main reasons that my friends stay at the koa. I don't know what it will be like this year, but, the koa campground is always pretty well packed out during bike week. and bike week is not so far away ... it will be here before you know it !!!

The best thing about staying _south_ of Daytona is the only people south of Daytona are all Florida locals. Everyone else has to come from up _above_ Daytona, and few of them are going to intentionally overshoot their destination. The upshot is that when you're ready to rack down and get some shut eye, everything _south_ of Daytona is pretty quiet

I live in Tampa and I am going to the event for the first time this year. if you have advice please email me. I drive a 1985 honda rebel with 9500 miles on it. and I plan on camping at a campground not staying at a hotel

I might head over for a daytrip or something this year. I haven't been to Bike Week in years, and certainly not since I got my OWN bike. Maybe we should have a Rebel forum meetup somewhere.

I am planning on bike week this year. Since I have a home west of Gainesville, I will be staying there and then riding over to Daytona (about a 2 hour ride at my speeds .

there is a really good place right on hwy 1 ... I have been there several times. now that you brought it up, I am going to go there. it is called "j b's", if I am not mistaken. it is on the water, too. great seafood. I took mike and phil calzo there a couple times over the years ... I will make sure you get there. I got a call from mike calzo yesterday and they have 5 guys coming from ohio, so far. he told me "danger" contacted him about staying at the koa in orange city- deland. so I guess he is a go, too.

yes ... the place is "j b's and is in new smyrna beach on a1a, just south of daytona. famous for crab legs and lobster tail, scallops etc ... I am ready any time of the year for that place ..

Jack, I looked over at the "other" rebel forum and couldn't find the thread about Daytona. When is everyone meeting up? I don't know if I want to ride out this Sunday or next weekend.

I talked to mike calzo a few days ago ... they will be arriving late in the morning this coming saturday, feb 27 ... they will be leaving the following sat. morning. your best bet to get with us would be sunday of this week end, the 28th ... unless you have time during the coming week. there is nothing planned or organized ... my cell phone is 321 279 1654 ...
I will be hanging out with these guys more than I usually do.

Jack, I'm trying to psyche myself up for this, but I'm unsure how my MIKE LANCE will manage 6+ hours on the Rebel in one day. I've only done about 4 before and needed an MIKE LANCE transplant when I got home . I think me and TDM will be riding out Sunday. If we leave my house about 9am, with one warm up stop on the way in, that would put us at the JB Fish Camp about noon, just in time for lunch. Do you and Mike and everyone want to meet up there at noon? After that, the swap meet at the fairgrounds looked like fun. It would be back on the way home for us too so it wouldn't be as traumatic for my MIKE LANCE to go all the way up to Daytona and back .
